Gothic Clothing, Dark Goth Fashion & Clothes
Gothic clothing scares me a bit because, to be honest - I know little about it. That’s not to say it isn’t a legitimate fashion style, it’s just one that I haven’t had much to do with. Maybe that’s because I was never the Gothic clothing type… is their a type? I remember a type – sometime during the 80s wasn’t it? A secluded clump of people hanging around town who dressed ‘funny’; wearing their mysterious, dark… almost spooky-looking Gothic clothing, we called them Goths and we pointed and stared because they dared to be different.
Gothic clothing meant boys wore makeup! It’s all coming back to me now. Milky white faces with pitch black eyeliner and the matching black nail polish. With long, blackened hair… concealing half their faces, it was hard to tell who was the boy and who was the girl! But it didn’t matter – we called them all Goths collectively. And as long as we didn’t have to wear Gothic clothing, we didn’t really take much notice of them.
So where does Gothic clothing come from? After a spot of research I’ve found out a bit of info that sheds some light on things. Goths, and their style of dress, appear to be derivatives of the punk era in the early 1980s… which all seems harmless enough on the surface. But probing further is the stereotypical Goth who worships Satan and takes on an almost vampire-like façade… amongst other freaky ‘dark side’ stuff. Absolute crap of course, but that’s what the non-educated mortals amongst us tend to think because we know nothing about it. I, on the other had, have since become quite familiar with the subculture of the Goth and realise there is far more to Gothic clothing than meets the eye (with or without the black eyeliner).
Gothic clothing is back, people! And not only is it back, but it’s fashionable! Gothic clothing is no longer clothing for weird people or anyone who is an outcast and doesn’t fit society’s ‘norm’… in fact it’s quite the opposite. Yes it’s still black and mysterious – but it’s also sexy! Plus you can mix up your styles… wear a piece of Gothic clothing with your usual clubbing gear, throw on some fishnet stockings with your boots and you have a look that’s stylish and really cool. And who doesn’t like looking cool? As far as Gothic clothing goes, give it a go sometime – you can’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it!
