Not just a burlesque corset; but all the beautiful finery that went with it… the hosiery and the heels. With her hair and makeup done ‘just so’, she knew how her great-grandmother must have felt at the Moulin Rouge… gay Paris in the early 1900’s. Dancing the can-can and living the life of cabaret and show girl decadence.
Now, wearing her elegant burlesque corset made her feel like a star. And that’s because she was a star. It was in her blood. Ok, so she was merely a magician’s assistant… but he was an awe-inspiring magician, an artist no less. And she performed alongside him and together they were a team. The perfect team; with their fantastic trickery and mystifying illusion. One day they would make it big. One day they would prove themselves as elite entertainers, performing at parties of the wealthy… for high society and celebrities all over the world.
How she yearned to be among the exotic world of the Burlesque again. She had travelled to Europe… to France to see where she had come from. She understood the pain and the hard work it took to make it into that place and now she was ready to give her all. Now, as part of their new act they would amaze the crowds and extend themselves more than ever before.
And he knew she was a star. He allowed her the spotlight… to shine on stage in front of all her public. The curtain ready to go up and there, this time with the smoky feathers and long tulle bustle skirt… in yet another dazzling burlesque corset, she was ready!
The lights were on and as the music started, she twirled out onto the front of the stage… her stage. Introducing…. the one and only… the amazing…. Waldo the Great and his beautiful dancing girl Terese! Then the loud screech of a recorded audio tape being snapped off short, just as 150 screaming children, frantically wave their ‘We Love Waldo’ flags higher in the air. She wished she hadn’t scoffed that last hotdog… her gorgeous, full-boned burlesque corset felt tighter than usual.
